Welcome!
"There are only two mistakes you can make along the road to trust; not going all the way, and not starting." - Buddha
Welcome to my page! My name is Sarah Parker.
I take great pride in telling others that I am a teacher! No matter what trials and tribulations I have encountered throughout life, I have always had my curiousity and education to lead me. This is something that I hope to share with my students. I chose the dual certification of both language arts and social studies because I think the two subjects rely strongly on one another. Without writing, reading, comprehension, and expression; we would not have history and without history, we would not have such interesting things to read and write.
The education system is in the midst of a change; and I fully embrace this. My university and experiences have prepared me to adapt and inspire by using my own knowledge and creativity; as well as the tools of my educational peers and future students.
*Above, I use a quote from Buddha. The quote notes the road to trust. I also find this applicable to education because the extraordinary forms of learning come from a connection of trust between the student and teacher.

Basic InformationMy name is Sarah Parker. I was recently married and am in the process of changing my name to Sarah Pittman. I am from the town of Statesville, North Carolina. I grew up with high expectations of an accurate and accepting moral compass, while still given the freedom to express who I was. All of that early training resulted in this: a teacher. I am a graduate of North Carolina State University and a proud member of the College of Education focusing in Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies. I am currently completing my Masters of Education in Reading through East Carolina University. As well as a dual AIG Certification program between JMU and ECU.
"If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself." |
How I Got HereTo find out a more indepth idea of what it means to "be here", you'll have to explore my Educational Philosophy in my Pedagogical Content page.
Basically, I attribute all of my philosophies to my wide range of experiences. It all started because I was the baby of a family with sibblings much older than me. From a young age, I had an oddly expressive independence. Through this independence, I took time to explore paths and topics that one would not usually expect from a small town girl born into a family that has lived in one town for generations. This independence and curiousity led to a long path of universities and countries. Straight out of high school I attended the University of South Carolina where I spent two years. The first semester of my junior year I participated in a semester long study abroad program hosted by the University of Iowa Consortium based in Parderno Del Grappa, Italy. Once returning from Italy, I took time off of school and transfered to NC State University. While attending NC State, I have taken part in three study abroad programs in Turkey, Belize, and Brazil. I am currently enrolled in a Distance Education program through ECU to become certified as a Reading Specialist. |
